A group of Taliban lay down weapon in Badakhshan
A 10-member group of armed Taliban militants gave up fighting and handed over their weapons to police in the northern Badakhshan province with Faizabad as its capital 315 km northeast of Kabul on Tuesday, a local official said Wednesday.
“A 10-member group of Taliban militants under Ahmad Maqsoud handed over their weapons to police on Tuesday afternoon and vowed to defend the government from now on,” deputy to provincial police chief Sakhidad Haidary said.
The surrendered militants were active in anti-government activities in Baharak district over the past couple of years, the official said.
Taliban militants who are active in parts of Badakhshan province including Baharak district haven’t commented.
