Fresh operation of security forces kill 70 insurgents
Some 70 Taliban militants have been killed during military operations in different Afghan provinces, the Afghan Defense Ministry said on Tuesday morning.
“Within the past 24 hours, up to 70 armed insurgents were killed, 42 wounded and six other insurgents were detained during Afghan National Army operations and air strike throughout the country,” the ministry said in a statement.
The army also seized weapons and ammunition in addition to defusing several landmines, according to the statement.
A total of 12 army personnel embraced martyrdom in separate incidents within the same period, the statement confirmed.
The Taliban-led violence continues in Afghanistan. Afghan security forces have pressed on clearing the militants in restive provinces as they assumed the full security charges from NATO-led troops since Jan. 1.
The Taliban militant group has yet to make comments.
