Over 120 thousand Afghans return to Afghanistan in past two months

International Organization of Migration in its latest report said that 120 thousand and 341 Afghans have returned or have been deported from neighboring Pakistan and/or Iran.

In the report, statistics from January 1st until February 25th of 2022 have been counted that include both returnees and those deported.

Iran is at the top of the two countries from where 108 thousand and 715 people have come back to Afghanistan among them over 70,000 were deported while the rest have spontaneously been returned.

Meanwhile, 11 thousand and 626 people have come back from Pakistan through Torkham and Chaman crossings among them only 250 have been deported whereas the remainder is returned spontaneously.

The IOM further said that those returned from the two countries have been assisted at the crossing points.

“44 thousand and 697 returnees have been assisted in general. Nearly 35 thousand returnees from Iran and over nine thousand of these people from Pakistan have been assisted with upon their return to Afghanistan.” Reads the report.

Further, assistance from IOM includes a hot meal, transportation, accommodation, multi-purpose cash, basic household items, referrals for services, outpatient consultations, reproductive health care, COVID-19 screening, and referrals for tertiary care at a health facility.
