Second Vice-President: Climate negative changes more dangerous than terrorism
Second Vice-President described the climate negative changes as more dangerous than terrorism.
Making speech at the World Week of Climate Change conference in Kabul Ustad Mohammad Sarwar Danesh said: “Terrorism dangers conclude, but climate negative changes lay negative lasting consequences.”
Danesh reminded the approval of convention on climate change through the UN, Kyoto Protocol and approval of the goals of sustainable development of the United Nations and shed light with details about the consequences.
However he said the climate change negative impact was less than feared, mostly from lack of industry’s growth in Afghanistan, but warned that Afghanistan was one of the most vulnerable countries in term of climate change.
“Findings revealed that Afghanistan is the most vulnerable country in Asia and the 14th vulnerable countries in term of climate changes in the world,” said the vice-president adding the main reason behind was strict dependence of the country on agriculture sector, and that lack of seasonal rainfall and rise of temperature has blown up seriously to the agriculture field.
According to the world index, climate change dangers introduced by the German Watch has ranked Afghanistan the 15th countries of the world between 1994 and 2014.
He said the only way to fight negative climate changes was an all-out preparation against the world notorious phenomenon.
Danesh said other countries of the world have taken the issues serious as much as the neighboring Pakistan to have established a special ministry of climate change.
He lauded the efforts of the national environment protection office for its successfully introducing four protected national parks consisting Band-e-Amir in Bamyan, Wakhan in Badakhshan, Dara-e-Fuladi in Bamyan and Kol-e-Hashmat Khan in the capital Kabul.
The National Plan of Compatibility with Climate Change, the first and the second report on climate change, practical strategy and plan for climate change in Afghanistan, National Climate Change Committee, study teams and the leading committee of computability with climate change were among the policies and programs of the government of Afghanistan in the area of reducing harms of the climate change in the country.
He called the role of the ministries of public works, water and power, agriculture, rural development, urban development, mines and petroleum and public health as well as the independent local organs administration the most important to fight the phenomenon.
Public awareness about the negative climate changes, creation of safe atmosphere for the local people live, prevention of lands from becoming arid and finally increase of renewing energy for consumption of energy have been among the important and effective policies could help prevent climate changes’ negative impacts.
