Taliban infighting kills at least 80 Taliban insurgents in Herat

According to the defense officials, the rival Taliban groups are still engaged in the deadly infighting in Shindand district.

The officials further added that the rival groups include supporters of Mullah Akhtar Mansoor and Mullah Mohammad Rasool. According to Khaama press.

Heavy clashes continue between the two sides in two regions of Shindand district, Charqala and Bakhtabad, the offcials, said, adding that the Afghan armed forces are closely monitoring the situation and will take actions if the clashes created problems to the local residents.

This comes as reports emerged on Wednesday suggesting that two top Taliban leaders, Mullah Malik and Mullah Wakil, were reported in the infighting.

Local officials citing preliminary reports regarding the casualties said Wednesday that at least 67 Taliban militants have been killed and 65 others have been wounded as clashes still continue between the two sides.

The latest clashes between the Taliban factions follows almost three months after a similar clash broke out between the rival groups in this province.

The Taliban factions are occasionally engaging in deadly infighting, mainly due to differences over the group’s leadership, which changed following the death of the group’s founder Mullah Mohammad Omar.

Mullah Mansoor assumed charge of the Taliban group in July last year following the announcement of Taliban founder Mullah Mohammad Omar’s death.

His controversial appointment as new Taliban supreme leader led to widening rift among the Taliban leaders who are often entering into deadly clash.
