Kuhestanat district in Badakhshan fell to Taliban militants

According to reports, Kuhestanat district in northern Badakhshan province fell to the Taliban militants late on Thursday after it had been surrounded by them for the past two days.

Reports suggest the district fell to the Taliban militants after no reinforcement arrived at the district to support the local forces.

In the meantime, other reports suggest that there are tense fighting in other areas of the province including districts of Raghistan and Tashkan.

Both the government and the Taliban have yet to comment on the report.
